Mea's works explores memory and the quiet emotional weight of everyday experience.

Meiyan(Mea) Liu is an art undergraduate student at the Maryland Institute College of Art whose work explores memory and the quiet emotional weight of everyday experience. She uses visual storytelling to examine how individuals exist within both physical and psychological spaces. She initially majored in illustration but has gradually shifted her focus to oil painting. Born in China, she left her country at the age of 16 to study in Canada and the United States. She currently lives and studies in Baltimore, Maryland. Her work often revolves around themes of belonging, memory, and narrative. Exaggerated use of color and the arrangement of lines are characteristic of her work. Through drawing, painting, and mixed media, she moves between personal and imagined scenes. Color plays an important emotional role in Mea’s paintings. Strong blues, greens, and purples appear often in her work and create environments that feel calm and reflective.
